One of the most common questions men have about TRT is cost. Between consultation fees, blood work, medication, and ongoing monitoring, the total can be confusing — especially when subscription clinics bundle everything into opaque monthly packages.
Here's exactly what TRT costs in Australia when you go through a proper GP-led clinic like ours.
Consultation costs
At TRT GP Australia, consultations are simple:
- Initial consultation: $99 — 15-minute video consult with an AHPRA-registered GP. Includes clinical assessment, blood work review, treatment plan, and prescription if appropriate.
- Follow-up: $39 — 15-minute video consult. Script renewals, dose adjustments, blood work review, ongoing care.
No subscriptions. No recurring charges. No lock-in contracts.
Blood work costs
Blood work is ordered through a standard pathology provider (QML, Laverty, Sullivan Nicolaides, etc.).
- With a Medicare card: Most pathology is bulk-billed, meaning no out-of-pocket cost for the blood test itself.
- Without Medicare: Expect $80–$200 per panel depending on the provider and tests ordered.
You'll need at least two fasting morning blood tests before starting TRT, then regular monitoring blood work (every 8–12 weeks initially, then every 6 months).
Medication costs
Medication is filled at your pharmacy at standard prices. We don't ship medication, mark it up, or bundle it into subscription fees.
- Reandron (testosterone undecanoate injection): ~$30–$40 on PBS per injection (every 10–14 weeks). Private: ~$80–$120.
- Testogel 1% (transdermal gel): ~$35–$50/month on PBS. Private: ~$70–$100/month.
- AndroForte 5% cream: ~$80–$120/month (compounded, not PBS-listed).
- Enclomiphene: ~$40–$80/month (compounded, fertility-preserving alternative).
PBS eligibility depends on your diagnosis and blood work results. Your GP will advise whether you qualify.
Total annual cost: a realistic estimate
For a man on Reandron (the most common TRT option):
- Initial consultation: $99
- 3–4 follow-ups per year: $117–$156
- Reandron (~4 injections/year): $120–$160 on PBS
- Blood work: bulk-billed with Medicare
Estimated annual cost: $336–$415 — compared to $2,400–$7,200/year with subscription platforms.
How subscription clinics compare
Online TRT subscription services typically charge $199–$599 per month, bundling consultation, medication, and "monitoring" into a single recurring fee. This sounds convenient, but you're paying a significant markup on medication that costs a fraction of the price at your local pharmacy.
At TRT GP Australia, we separate the clinical service from the medication supply — the way any proper medical practice operates.
